A Fathers Perspective
As a father of young children, my Christmases have changed unrecognisably in the last few years. Not much of a revelation that, perhaps, but it has only just dawned on me, now that I have three little ‘angels’.
In fact I really can’t remember what I did before children. I have a feeling that it involved pleasing myself, pretty much, and of course travelling home to my parents for doses of I-now-remember-why-I-couldn’t-possibly-live-at-home-with-these-people-anymore family interaction.

This afternoon my 6 year old brought me 3 beautifully crafted and amazingly legible Christmas lists, one each for her 3 and 5 year old sisters and one for herself. We made a rule a couple of years ago that they can only put 5 things on their lists – it makes them think a bit more carefully about what they want instead of rattling out everything they see on adverts.
Lewis (dad) will be so pleased to hear that at the top of all their lists were some new dolls (like the 50 we already have aren’t enough). One that swims, one that pees, and another one that walks. I guess he can yet again be assured of finding dolls floating in the bath, wet dolls in his side of the bed and countless snack covered dolls in the back foot well of the car, give him something else to moan about.
He will be even more pleased to hear that the next thing they have decided on is Pony in my Pocket, Puppy in my Pocket and Jungle in my Pocket. Sounds to me like lots of little bits that Lewis would no doubt describe as ‘bin fodder’. Bah humbug!
Anyway – thoroughly looking forward to Christmas, not so looking forward to the rest of the winter – too cold for me.
